Alpha Secondary provides students with a variety of course options for all types of science related fields.  We engage in inquiry based learning to help students acquire the skills necessary for scientific investigation.

We offer a Discovery Science 8/9 Honours program for students interested in enriched acceleration at the grade 8 level.  Successful completion of this program will allow students to enrol in Science 10H the following year to prepare for higher level AP science courses.  Students don’t need to participate in Discovery in order to apply for Science 10H so students in the regular stream also have the opportunity to engage in AP sciences. Acceptance into the Discovery program will be based on an entrance exam, teacher recommendation, and the report card.

Please visit our Advanced Placement website under the Programs tab on the Alpha website for information regarding our AP program.

Many of our students participate in an annual science fair in order to compete at Regionals and Nationals.  Alpha is proud in sending students to both levels.  Our students also participate in a wide range of science contests/challenges/competitions both local and national levels.

We also pride ourselves in taking students on many field experiences throughout their years at Alpha to engage in hands-on learning.  We have previously taken students to Science World, Van Aquarium, SFU outreach, UBC Michael Smith Labs, David Harwick Pathology Ctre, Reed Point Marina, Burnaby Lake, Deer Lake, Playland, Planetarium, Museum of Anthropology, and Sexual Health presentations.
